Last several weeks;

I’ve had some ups and downs the last 6 weeks. It started with a great ride to the Hunter Valley with the John Maclean foundation at the end of October. 170km each way with 100km on the middle day of the three day trip.

The following week I rode 540kms with little other training. The next two weeks I rode 600kms’ as well as swimming a few times, and running a little as well. Roughly 28 hrs a week.

The following week I was buggered. I did almost no training. I felt so tired and flat, and then the next week I got a really bad cold.

I’ve had fatigue before, so it was nothing new but it is such an obvious problem and is accompanied by some physical symptoms it has always frustrated me that no one could give me any idea as to what causes it.

But a simple book I read which my physio lent me is about tight psoas and ilius muscles and the relation to zinc deficiency, and the symptoms of zinc deficiency, have led me to believe this could be a big part of my problem.

So I’m taking lotss of Zinc, and testing myself for deficiency regularly (there is a simple self test you can buy at the vitamin shop), and feeling much better. Well so far I am feeling good enough that I was able to win a swim- run- swim- run- swim- run event along the Northern beaches on the weekend.

It was called the Three Points Challenge, and was 47minutes of flat out racing. It was a heap of fun, and made tougher and more fun by the challenge of Mitch Dean who made a statement in the local paper the day of the race, and followed it up with second place in the race.

So this weekend I’m off to Canberra, which will be tough after 3 weeks of little training, and almost zero running. But I think my riding and swimming will be ok.

Update again after the Canberra half.
Cheers
pete
