Camp Cyco
I’m a week into my Cycos training camp, and loving it. Even though I’m training harder and waking up hours earlier every morning than usual! The type of training is different than what I do on my own in Sydney and training with a group or most sessions is a motivating change. Although I will be ready for a slightly easier week after Gundiwindi half Ironman this weekend.
The Cycos are a Brisbane triathlon club and the majority is coached by Alan Pitman. I’ve done all their sessions with them since last Wednesday evening, as well as a few more in my own time, including a couple of motor pacing sessions riding my bike behind Al on his Harley Davidson.
I’m treating this as a hard week and fitting in all the sessions I can so as to take advantage of the motivating atmosphere among the Cycos and Al. As well as training, I also have a couple of appointments with an infamous kinesiologist up here who always finds something lacking and gives me a boost.
This weekend is the Goondiwindi half Ironman, or ‘Hell of the West’ as it is named due to the extreme heat at the race site a few hours west of Brisbane. It will be good training and hopefully give me a confidence boost despite being tired from training as I head towards New Zealand Ironman on March 1st.
I’d like to tell you what sessions I’ve been doing up here.. but that would give away the coaches secrets….but I’ll tell you this morning we swam, rode on our trainers, then ran. See pictures.
I’ve never been fitter, or running faster, and injury free. Nutrition remains the only variable in my quest for the IM New Zealand title, but I have a new and different approach now that hopefully will be the key to unlocking the formula I have been working on for the last 4 years.
Talk to you next week after the half
Cheers

P.S. A note on the slowtwitch interview I did last week, specifically my training sessions. It caught many peoples attention and was talked about humerously and seriously on a couple of forums. If you care to have a look, here’s the Australian forum transitions, and if you speak spanish, a spanish forum that apparently is talking about it too.
